The center of Willemstad has two shopping areas separated by the famous pontoon bridge: Punda and Otrobanda. Both areas are definitely worth a visit during your stay in your apartment on Curacao.

Punda:

Punda is traditionally the main shopping area of Willemstad. Punda was protected by the Waterfort and Fort Amsterdam, built in 1648. Since that time the Dutch people conduct international trade here. Over time there emerged many stores along the coast of Punda. Beyond the boulevard in the narrow streets houses and shops were built. Today, the picturesque pedestrian streets determine the atmosphere in Punda. While walking through downtown Willemstad you experience unique photo opportunities. In this area you will find many different shops from boutiques to souvenir shops. From the small streets, full of life and color, you can walk to the quality shops. Here you find a wonderful selection of European clothing, French perfumes, Italian leather, accessories, English porcelain and Japanese electronics.

Otrobanda:

Otrobanda literally means "the other side." This area of Willemstad is therefore on the other side of the St. Anna Bay. The main shopping street in Otrobanda is the Breedestraat. This street is situated between the Kura Hulanda Museum and the Rif Fort. Brionplein is the centerpiece of Otrobanda's boulevard.

Much of the ramshackle slum Otrobanda was transformed into a beautifully renovated historic district and provides a good example of Dutch colonial architecture in the Caribbean.

Opening hours:

Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 a.m. and from 14 p.m. to 18 p.m.

There is so much to see and so much to do in the capital of Curacao that you will probably don't have enough time to see everything during your stay in your vacation rental on Curacao. A good reason to come back to the beautiful island Curacao!
